Cleaning Air Conditioner Filter of Your Motorhome or RV
RV air conditioner
system has filter units to clean the air. There are two types of filters -
Washable units and disposable one-time-use units. So first of all, your job is
to make sure of the type of filter. If you choose to get a disposable filter
unit, you just need to buy a fresh product and replace the old one. In the case
of a washable camper air conditioner filter, below is the cleaning procedure.
Removing
the filter unit
The first step is to
remove the filter unit from the cooling system. Start with turning off the
electrical supply of the air conditioner. Remove the protective cover. And
remove the filter unit. If you are a beginner, you shall read AC’s user manual.
Tip: Never turn on the
AC without a filter. It will bring all the debris inside the RV and will create
troubles for you.
Vacuuming
dirt and dust
Use the vacuum on a
medium or low setting to remove dust and grime from the surface of the Coleman
RV air conditioner filter.
Tip: Do not press it
hard because it may break or dent the unit. Do not perform this task while
inside the RV, to prevent dirt from contaminating your interior.
Washing the
filter unit
Sometimes, the filter
is heavily dusted, that is why vacuuming alone does not work. To ensure the
cleaning is done properly, or in case of heavy dirt, you should wash the
filter. Take a container. Fill it with lukewarm water. Add a mild detergent to
it. Mix the water to create a rich lather. Leave the filter in the water for
10-15 minutes.
Tip: Don’t use strong
cleaning solutions; you may end up damaging the unit.
Dry the
unit and placing it again
Let it air-dry for
several hours before installing it back in the AC.
Tip: You may take
photographs of the filter in the beginning to just keep a note of how it was
placed.
